MARY J. THOMPSON

(1929 - 2024)

Mary J. Thompson, age 94, of Green Bay (formerly Chilton), died on January 4, 2024, at Bellevue Senior Living in Green Bay. She was born August 6, 1929, daughter of the late Dr. H.W. Hunt and Freda Hunt, La Crosse, Wi.. She married Charles "Bud" Thompson June 30, 1951, and together they had four sons.

Mary was dedicated to her faith, her family, and to the teaching profession. She played the organ every Sunday at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Chilton for over 30 years. Mary taught 1st grade and kindergarten in the Chilton Public School system for over 35 years. She was recognized with the Teacher of the Year award after 25 years of dedication to her students. Her generous and unfailing kindness was the hallmark of her approach to life and to her profession. Mary recognized the importance of patience in all things, especially family relationships. Raising four energetic boys required an extraordinary amount of patience and she rarely ran in short supply. She cherished her grandchildren and found great delight in her great grandchildren.

Mary was an avid fan of all Wisconsin sports and found great pleasure in following all her teams. Throughout their years together Bud and Mary attended countless sporting events, supported their children and grandchildren as well as the Tigers, Phantoms, Redbirds, Broken Arrows, Badgers, and Packers. They appreciated and valued a competitive sporting event and the life lessons available to the participants.

Mary frequently appreciated a competitive game of bridge with friends, or an evening round of Altoona with her family. She was very good at both and good company, too. Her sweet presence at the Altoona table was a family treasure for so many years.

Remember Bud and Mary, as their memorial states: Teachers of many, friends to all.

Mary is survived by her sons: Jeffrey Thompson (special friend, Lorrie), Robert (Mary Jane) Thompson, Dr. David (Kim) Thompson, and Thomas (Renee) Thompson; grandchildren: Ryan Thompson, Cristina (Jared) Bosch, Dr. Emily (Chad) Zadnik, Sarah Thompson (husband, Alex Javes), Nic (Delaney) Thompson, Max Thompson, and Ali Thompson (fiancé, Charlie Lawrence); Todd Nugent, Danielle (Martin) Weathers, Chelsea Scott) Lunn, great-grandchildren: Jillian Zadnik, Mia Zadnik, Charles Zadnik, Logan Lunn, Harper Lunn, Draven Lunn, Skye Lunn, Wesley Weathers, and Jaxon Weathers; and a sister-in-law: Eleanor Augsburger.
