ADVANCE - Mrs. Mildred Allen Smith, 90, of Advance, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Jan. 15, 1913, in Davie County to the late Isaac Branch and Lydia Smith Allen. Mrs. Smith was a member of Macedonia Moravian Church and was retired from Western Electric. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Odell Smith; a son, Odell Glenn Smith; three brothers; a sister; and two sons-in-law. Surviving are five children, Flora Mae and Thurmond Hockaday, Ann S. Howell, Nancy S. Howell, Willie G. and Peggy Smith and Wayne and Elaine Smith, all of Advance; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Orpha and Tom Norman and Dorothy and Wallace Hutchens, all of Yadkinville, and Frances Stewart of Mocksville. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Macedonia Moravian Church, with the Rev. Greg Little officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. Mrs. Smith will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Macedonia Moravian Church, 700 NC Hwy. 801 N., Advance, NC 27006, or to Hospice of Davie County, P.O. Box 848, Mocksville, NC 27028.
