Son of the late Walter A. and Elsie (Nelson) Golden. As a teenager, Dick had great interest in radio and TV as a hobby. While serving in the US Army during the Korean War, Dick had training as a radar and guided missile technician maintaining radar sites along the United States eastern coast. He continued repairing TV's in a small shop in Philadelphia while serving. Dick began a full-time business starting Dick Golden Radio & TV in 1964. He retired in 2017 at age 85.

Dick is predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Karen M. (Linberg) Golden, who passed March 21, 1995 and son, Todd Golden, who passed February 25, 1987.
