Loretta Cecelia Lanicek, 88, passed away on January 2, 2024 surrounded by family. She was born on August 18, 1935 to George and Hermina Lanicek and was raised in Bryan, Texas. Loretta was preceded in death by her sisters, Joan Kosarek and Dolores Kuciemba, and her brother, Charles Lanicek. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Loretta was known for her selflessness, kindness, and generous spirit that touched the lives of many.

After graduating from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1953, she worked for Texas A&M College before moving to San Antonio in 1958. There she worked at USAA for 35 years as a top executive secretary and secretary to the board of directors.

After retiring in 1993, Loretta returned to Bryan to care for her mother and be closer to her extended family. Although she never had children of her own, her many nieces and nephews considered "Rettie" to be their second mother. She helped their parents care for them and would generously give them her love, attention, and time.

Loretta lived a very full, active life and had many close friends. They loved to travel, go walking, go shopping, take short trips, dance, try out new restaurants, and volunteer at church together. She often said that the highlights of her travels were to the Czech Republic, which she lovingly referred to as her family's motherland, and to Alaska.

Loretta had a deep faith in God and volunteering was an integral part of her life. For many years she dedicated her time and life to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bryan. She was a member of the KJZT, Age Managers, and the Women's Guild. She also put in many volunteer hours helping with weekly adoration, the annual KJZT garage sale, church festival, and numerous other events.

Loretta cared deeply for all animals, but held a special place in her heart for all her dogs. Every dog she met was her friend. Family, however, was always Loretta's top priority, and she devoted herself to their happiness and wellbeing. Loretta was a beautiful woman who exemplified what it means to care for others selflessly. She will be remembered as a kind and generous person who brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to know her.

A visitation for Loretta will be held Monday, January 8, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1515 South College Avenue, Bryan, Texas 77801.
