Samuel and Nancy Starnes were buried on the Starnes Plantation, Starnes Cemetery. Both headstones are broken or lost. His oldest son, General James Wellborn Starnes M.D. Inherited most of the land and plantation home. The major portion of land and stock was divided between the remaining siblings.

Nancy was the daughter of General James Wellborn and Rebecca Montgomery. On July 3, 1816, she married Dr Samuel Scott Starnes.
