Obituary for Joan W. Banks
After a long, happy and blessed life, Joan W. Banks, 96, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2023 in Greensburg. She was born on June 23, 1927 in Rush County to the late Fred and Mary (Martz) Walker, and was a 1945 graduate of New Salem High School. Joan married Ernie Banks, Jr. on November 9, 1946 and he preceded her in death on September 22, 1990.
Joan enjoyed a 20 year career as a bank teller, working at several different locations in Rushville and Clarksburg and was a passionately involved member of Clarksburg Christian Church where she participated in the Loyal Circle and helped to plan the preparation and presentation of funeral meals. She was also a member of Delta Theta Phi and the Lake Santee Women's Club. Joan was an honored member of the Grand Chapter of Indiana Eastern Star serving in many offices including Past Worthy Matron at the Andersonville Eastern Star. On May 7, 2023. Joan was honored with a reception and pin, celebrating her 75 years of service with the Eastern Star.
First and foremost, Joan was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She treasured her children and embraced and enjoyed every moment with them, and especially loved her role as "Memaw." Her favorite "activity" was spending the day with her family on the water at Lake Santee.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou (Jim) Ransom of MI; sons, Steve (Janet) Banks of Indianapolis, David (Cathy) Banks of Eureka, TX and Doug (Charity) Banks of Greensburg. She will also be missed by her 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant sister, Jean Walker and brother, John Walker.
Visitation and services will be held at the Clarksburg Christian Church (6708 N County Rd 700 E, Clarksburg, IN 47225) on Saturday, January 6, 2024. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to Noon, and the service at Noon, with Rev. Jerran Jackson presiding. Burial will follow at the East Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Clarksburg Christian Church Loyal Circle or the Clarksburg Christian Church Funeral dinner committee.
