Darrel was born December 12, 1943 at Pipestone, M.N. to Lester and Melba (Sass) Bonrud. He graduated from Egan High School in 1961. He served six years in the U.S. Army where he met his beloved wife, Jean, and they married on January 9, 1971 at Messiah Lutheran Church. They lived in the Flandreau area and retired to Missouri in 2010.
Darrel found immense joy in the laughter of his grandkids, creating cherished memories that will endure through generations. He enjoyed woodworking and made many beautifully crafted pieces that reflected his artistry. The Christmas season held a special place in his heart, as he loved decorating for Christmas. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, Clinton, M.O.; daughter Julie (Ted) Enstad, Walnut Grove, M.N.; and son Darrel (Stefanie) Bonrud, Baltic, S.D.; and six grand children: Hope and Addison Bonrud and Myra, Hudson, Henry, and Audrey Enstad; one brother, Larry (Mary) Bonrud Spearfish, S.D.; and one sister, Charlene (Glen) DeClerk, Surprise, A.Z.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Melba Bonrud, and his brother, Lloyd.
