Born in Ireland (likely County Cavan) to Charles Wood and Jane Montgomery or Gallagher.

Charles and his family arrived in Canada around 1854 and settled in the North Dumfries area of Ontario.

Charles married Didame "Damie" Beam in East Zorra in 1870. They moved to Summit Twp., Jackson, Michigan soon after. Charles, Damie and their children returned to Canada around 1875. In 1881 they were living in McKillop, Huron Centre, Ontario. The family moved to the Farmington area of Oakland Co., Michigan in 1882. A few years after this the family settled in Rolland Twp., Isabella, Michigan where Charles farmed.

Damie died in 1895. The following year Charles married Anna Black in Detroit. Anna died in 1910. The following year, Charles left his family and farm in Michigan and went to Winnipeg, Manitoba where he married the widow Letitia Lowes Mills. They immediately moved to British Columbia where they remained. Letitia died in 1944.

Charles and his first wife, Damie, had eight known children:

Eleanor/Elner, 1872-1965, m. Jacob Cook
John, 1874-1875
James Norman, 1877-1958, m. Mary Hubscher
William Howard, 1879-1959

All of Charles' children remained in Michigan.

Charles was my third great-grandfather through his daughter, Marion.
