Mrs. J. Cox Dies at 77 -- Mrs. Carrie Jane Cox, 77, mother of two prominent area persons, died unexpectedly yesterday morning at her home, 844 South National. Mrs. Cox was the mother of Springfield attorney, John C. Cox and of Webster County's representative in the state legislature, Mrs. Icie Mae Pope of Marshfield. She also was an aunt of Gove. Frank Clement of Tennessee, keynoter at the Democratic Convention in 1956, and Jackson Day Banquet speaker here two years ago. She has been a resident here more than 40 years. Her husband, James C. Cox, who survives was car foreman for the northside Frisco shops for several years prior to his retirement a few years ago. Mrs. Cox was a member of South National Avenue Church of Christ, Crescent chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Eva Holland of Dickson, Tenn., and two grandsons, James Pope, a student at Southwest Missouri State College, and John Pope, former student and later public relations representative at SMS, presently attending law school at Cumberland University.
