Gene was born on July 6, 1940 in Madison County, TN, the son of the late George and Lucille Bray Brooks. He was a longtime barber in the Bemis area on D Street. In his free time, he loved raising beagle dogs and going rabbit hunting. He had a deep love for raising and riding horses, going to horse shows, and sharing his love of horses with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his daughter, Rita Rene Brooks; his grandson, Dusty Lynch; and his siblings, Ethridge Brooks, Ray Brooks, and Olean Brooks New.
He is survived by his wife, Ethelrene Gateley Brooks; daughter, Cheryl Brooks Jackson (Kenneth); son, Timmy Brooks (Betty); grandchildren, Amanda March, Cody Lynch, and Colton Lynch; great grandchildren, Jason Lynch, Axl Lynch, Chloe March, Caitlin March, and Reagan Lynch; and his siblings, Lynn Brooks (pam), Lois Brooks, and Jimmy Brooks (Barbara).
Funeral services for Gene will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with Rev. Tricia Trull officiating. Burial will follow in the Hickory Flatt Cemetery near Cedar Grove. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m., two hours prior to the service.
