Pvt. Daniel H. Compton (33rd Illinois Infantry – Co D)

Daniel H. Compton was born in Plainfield, New Jersey on March 13, 1840. He was living in Auburn, Illinois (Sangamon County) when he enlisted on March 24, 1864. He was listed as a farmer. Compton enlisted for 3 years and served 20 months. He was discharged at Vicksburg, Mississippi on November 24, 1865.

During Private Compton's enlistment the 33rd Illinois Infantry was involved in several operations in the southern theatre:

• Campaign against Mobile, Alabama (March 18-April 12, 1865).
• Capture of Fort Blakely (April 9, 1865).
• Occupation of Mobile, Alabama (April 12, 1865).
• Duty at Vicksburg, Mississippi until November, 1865.

Compton died on March 7, 1926 at the age of 86 years.
