David James, 82 year old Woodward resident passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023 in his home surrounded by family.

David Rance James was born January 20, 1941 to Robert Jacob and Eva Lee (Colley) James in Cameron, Oklahoma. David grew up in Le Flore County, Oklahoma where his father worked in the coal mines and as a farmer. David attended school up until 8th grade where he then was inducted into the United States Army in 1961. He was honorably discharged in 1964.

David was united into marriage to Betty Eurlene Finchum on May 29, 1964 in Woodward, Oklahoma. The couple then made their first home in Woodward, Oklahoma. To this union they were blessed three children, Kevin, Karen and Kristy.

David worked seven jobs in 56 years. He worked for Broce Construction for 33 years. He then worked in the Oilfield for ten years. He was an avid member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church. He often enjoyed fishing, watching baseball, and visiting other states. He loved going to Fort Supply Lake and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

David is survived by his three children, Kevin James and wife Rhonda of South Dakota; Karen James, Kristy James both of Woodward; two sisters, Dorothy Johnson, Molly Lamb; five grandchildren, Douglas Sharp, Phillip Sharp, Ryan Sharp, Alicia James, Chadd Lohse; great grandchildren, Bexley, Clayton, Daky, Alex, Amy, and Zackary; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty James, Ernest James and wife Lorene, George James, Robert James, Paul James, Bessie Dunkin and husband Walter, his parents Robert and Eva Lee James, his in laws, Ray and Lena Finchum.
