Wesley Charles Thornton, age 65, passed away peacefully at home on December 17. He leaves behind his wife of 22 years, Sheryl Jordan Thornton; his children, Danny Thornton and Sophie Thornton; his mother, Evelyn House Thornton; his sister, Susan Harper Flynn (Steve); his brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Mike and Jane Jordan, and Randy and Lauri Jordan; his nieces and nephews, Kristen Niblett (Cory), Josh Harper (Misty), Michael Jordan (Alli), Taylor Knight (Brett), Elizabeth Anne Jordan, David Jordan (Kalli), Katherine Jordan, and Virginia Wharton (Andy).

Wes was born in Anniston, Alabama, to Billy and Evelyn Thornton. He graduated from Anniston High School and earned his degree in Accounting at Jacksonville State University. After several years as a CPA in public accounting, Wes specialized in healthcare financial accounting. His executive accounting positions included Lloyd Noland Hospital, HealthSouth, Cooper Green Hospital, and Noland Health Services.

Wes was an active member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church in the Single Spirit Sunday School Class and outreach ministries. Wes and Sheryl met there while she was appointed on staff, and they married in 2001. They raised their children in Homewood and at Canterbury United Methodist Church, where Wes was active in the Genesis Sunday School Class.

A memorial service in thanksgiving for his life will be held at Canterbury United Methodist Church on Thursday, December 21, at 2:00 pm, with visitation before at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Canterbury United Methodist Church or your favorite charity. The family expresses deep gratitude for his caregivers.
