Bill, a native of Macon, Mississippi, was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, class of 1957. He chose to be a naval aviator, and in 1960 was assigned to Fighter Squadron VF-111 aboard the aircraft carrier USS HANCOCK. Tragically he was lost that year when his aircraft crashed during operations in the South China Sea
