Donald R. Higdon, 94, a resident of Williamsburg, Kansas for the last sixty-eight years, died on December 8, 2023, at his home. He was born on June 1, 1929, in Rantoul, Kansas, the son of John O. and Elsie (Gregg) Higdon. He graduated from Lane High School in 1947. He married Doris Brownlee on October 20, 1949 in Ottawa, Kansas; she preceded him in death on January 4, 2023. He worked for A & P Supermarket in Ottawa for twenty-eight years as a produce manager; as an oil field worker in Osawatomie, Kansas for three years; and in maintenance at Franklin Savings for ten years before retiring in 1994. He served in the United States Marine Corps from December 17, 1951 until December 3, 1953 during the Korean War. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, and son-in-law, Pat Simmons. He was survived by three daughters, sister, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
