Elisha Christopher Williams was the first of ten children born to Joseph Aden and Eliza Jane (Baze) Williams. As with all his siblings, his grandmother ~Ann Catherine~ delivered him into this world. On June 25, 1902, he and Carrie Angela Nyegaard were married in Bastrop County, Texas. The couple was the parents of three daughters ~ Mamie, Melba, and Eleanor.

Although he had been practicing as a physician before 1897, Elisha attended medical school in Louisville KY and received his License in 1906. His sister ~Joanna~ stated that he was "more conscientious and went back to school to get his diploma". Elisha practiced medicine in Red Rock for quite a while and then was employed by the Department of the Interior, US Indian Service as a medical doctor / surgeon on Native American reservations in the Gila River Valley area of Arizona in late 1910's & early 1920's.

Life, as a doctor, had it's ups and downs for Elisha. Letters to family members reveal some of the struggles he endured. Through it all, Elisha kept his faith in God ... and with HIS help, he overcame many of those obstacles.

The Williams' were always humbly proud of having a doctor in the family. I know I am! - Daughter of Grace (Elisha's grandniece)
