James S. "Jim" Trunzo, 70, of Tallahassee, Florida, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 2, 2011.
He was born in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania on July 22, 1940.
Jim was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. He served his country with the Seabees, the U.S.N. Mobile Construction Battalion, MCB-7, from 1962 to 1967.
After leaving the service, Jim received his B.A. degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania then moved to Tallahassee, Florida where he attended Florida State University and received his Masters Degree in Criminology in 1973.
Mr. Trunzo was an adjunct professor at Tallahassee Community College. He was also employed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement as an Executive Director of the Police Standards and Training Commission. He retired from the Florida Legislature after 15 years with the House of Representatives in various positions.
Jim was an avid FSU football fan, becoming a booster in 1972. He remained a loyal fan and season ticket holder over the years and continued to enjoy the FSU football games most recently with his grandson, Michael.
Jim was a generous and caring person full of love laughter and ever proud of his family. He had a special place in his heart and life for the Thursday night Men's Faith Group.
Predeceased by his parents Francis J. Trunzo, MD and Catherine (née Kernan) Trunzo of Punxsutawney PA and two brothers Francis J. Trunzo, Jr. of Green Valley AZ and William K. Trunzo of Punxsutawney PA, Jim's survivors included his wife of 21 years, Jerry Frances (née Carter) Trunzo; his daughters, Jessica Johnston (& Kirby) of Morristown NJ and Monica Olsen (& Tom) of Tallahassee FL; grandchildren, Chase, Tina, Maria and Michael.
The family received friends on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee FL. A Catholic Memorial Service was held on Friday, July 8, 2011 at St. Louis Catholic Church, 3640 Fred George Road, Tallahassee FL.
