Celia Payne, 88, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023. Celia was a life-long resident of Fredericksburg. She was described by many as "the sweetest & kindest person ever known."
Celia is survived by her son, Chuck Payne (Robin) of Richmond; daughter Carla Elkin (Paul) of Richmond; nine grandchildren, Matthew Elkin (Annie), Stuart Elkin (Laurene), Ashton Diehl (Pete), Julia Lipe, Chip Payne (Leah), Neil Payne (Krystal), Jack Elkin, Gina Elkin, and Leah Elkin; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Celia was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Clint Payne; mother, Velva Pickett; father, James Gallahan; and sister, Amelia Graninger.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Falmouth Baptist Church (302 Colonial Avenue, Fredericksburg, VA 22405). The family would like to thank the many relatives, friends, and the church family for their kindness and friendship over the years.
