BARRILLON DOUGHERTY
December 8, 1936 ~ December 6, 2023

Barrillon Dougherty, 86, of Paris, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Church of the Holy Cross. Inurnment will follow in the Holy Cross columbarium.

Born December 8, 1936, in Palestine, Texas, Jean Barrillon Felder Dougherty was the daughter of Dr. Fred E. Felder and Jean Granger Felder. Barrillon attended public schools in Palestine until graduation. Desiring distance to grow, she matriculated at Randolph-Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, Virginia for one year before returning to Texas to complete her bachelor's degree in Sociology with a minor in Economics at the University of Texas in Austin. Barrillon was an active member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, and after graduation, Mrs. Dougherty furthered her education by earning an MBA at UT-Austin.

In March of 1963, Barrillon married Dr. Marshall K. Dougherty in Palestine, Texas. The couple resided in Dallas, followed by Fort Hood before settling in Paris in the summer of 1968, where she successfully managed Dr. Dougherty's Pathology laboratory. A shrewd businesswoman by day, Mrs. Dougherty raised a family of four children when away from work, instilling sound values of decency, responsibility, and respect for others in her kids. Ever engaged, Barrillon was also an active member and pillar of the Paris community. She participated in Cosmos, Garden Club, Music Club,Super Supper Club, along with a host of others.

As a servant-leader, she spent numerous years with the King's Daughters, was honored to be designated a Lifetime PTA member, and was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Paris Rotary Club. A long-time member of Holy Cross, she served the Lord and her church by working or participating on The Alter Guild, Women of the Church, and as church treasurer. A talented photographer, Mrs. Dougherty became involved with The Paris Art Gallery in her later years, and many of her beautiful landscapes were regularly featured in the gallery.

Following the death of her husband, Barrillon spent nearly every summer sharing her love of travel with her grandchildren, exposing them to unforgettable adventures, traveling to exotic destinations such as Iceland and The Galapagos Islands. When not traveling abroad, other stateside excursions included Glacier National Park, New York, Grand Teton, and Yellowstone. Her love for adventure and travel, along with her dedication to her grandchildren, knew no bounds.

Barrillon would also work into the wee hours crocheting and knitting cherished items such as blankets and sweaters for her grandchildren. Among the most loved items she presented to all of her grandkids, including her great granddaughter, were stuffed dolls called "Hunkies," that were snuggled lovingly until practically tattered!

Ditty, as she was known by her close family, was an intelligent and caring mother and grandmother who filled her beautiful home with laughter and love. She inspired her kids and their children to be honest, compassionate, and to make good choices by always setting an excellent example in her everyday living. Upbeat and positive, Ditty always appreciated a quick wit and a sharp sense of humor, and her smile and friendliness were infectious. Quick to come to the aid of a friend or family member, Ditty was a constant source of charity and comfort to those in need.

A remarkable woman who lived a remarkable life, Barrillon Dougherty will be remembered fondly by her friends who respected her and by her family who adored her. Though her earthly presence is no more, her spirit will live on within those whose lives she impacted so profoundly.

Mrs. Dougherty is survived by her children, Marshall K Dougherty, Jr. and wife Tracy, of Paris, Jean Dougherty Mueller and husband Brian, of Richardson, Michael David Dougherty and wife Wendy of Blossom, and Susan Dougherty Brown and husband Patrick, of Peachtree Corners, GA,

Grandchildren Kathrine Dougherty Maldonado and husband Rodrigo, of Dallas, Victoria Dougherty Harding and husband Spencer, of St. Augustine, FL, Ashley, Mark, Kristen, and Lauren Mueller of Richardson, Beth Ann Dougherty of Willow Park and Ryan Dougherty of Georgetown, Logan Brown and fiancée Sydney Fricks, and Madison Brown of Peachtree Corners, GA, and one great-granddaughter, Erin Carter Brown of Peachtree Corners, GA,

**Barrillon and I have been friends and neighbors for many, many years, and I always appreciated her positive attitude, her quick wit and her keen intelligence. She was a remarkable lady. Our families "mirrored" each other because we each had a son, a daughter and another son, and they were all classmates! However, when she added Susan to her family, I did not follow up! I will cherish our family memories and our Moderne Music Club memories. She was a super accompanist and I'm sure she's singing and playing in heaven!
