William wished to marry a certain young lady of Clanton. But due to the fact that her family was of a different political affiliation, William's father Reuben would not approve of the marriage. Despondent, William hanged himself. He was buried in the small family cemetery of Robert Wilson. The tree from which William hanged himself was cut down in the 1980's.
