Emory J. Keckler

     COUNCIL — Emory John Keckler, 81, a resident of Council since 1908, died Tuesday at a Council hospital after a long illness. He was born Nov. 30, 1877, at Gettysburg, Pa., the son of Abraham and Elizabeth Alice Keckler.

     He was reared at Gettysburg where as a young man, he worked with his brother, Gus Keckler, as a guide through the battlefield. He was graduated from a barber college at Mount Morris, Ill.

     He was married June 24, 1908, to Mary Ruth Horton, at Chicago, Ill. The couple lived in Chicago where he owned and operated a barber shop until 1918, when they moved to Council. He had owned and operated his own barber shop in Council for more than 40 years. Mr. Keckler was a member of St. Agnes Catholic church at Weiser. He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Council; one son, Joe Keckler, Council; one daughter, Mrs. Alice Rising, Boise; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

     The Rosary will be said Friday at 7:30 p. m. at the Northam-Jones chapel in Weiser. Requiem mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic church by the Rev. Father William McQuaid. Interment will be at Hillcrest.
