DEATH OF MR. WALTER BRAIDWOOD - this very old resident of Galt passed away at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. John Rutherford, in Waterloo, on Monday morning last, almost suddenly. He had been in his usual health up to Sabbath, but that day did not appear to be quite well, although up and taking his meals. Monday morning, Mr. Rutherford went to his room and lit his fire and he then said he did not feel quite well and would go back to bed. In a short time Mrs. Rutherford took him up some breakfast, of which he had taken scarcely a mouthful before he complained of severe pain in the region of his heart and lying back in his bed almost instantly breathed his last, heart disease or failure of the heart being the supposed cause of death.

Mr. Braidwood was in his 81st year. He came from Roxburghshire, Scotland, to this country in 1841. Of his early years after coming here we find but little record, but soon he entered into business as a butcher with Mr. Wm. Ramsay, on North Water Street. Carrying this on for some time, the firm dissolved and went out of business, and from that time, if we mistake not, Mr. Braidwood principally occupied himself with dealing in hides, accumulating considerable means. Old age and the loss of his aged wife caused his withdrawal from active life, and for some years he has taken his ease, latterly, for the sake of companionship, residing with Mr. and Mrs. Rutherford. Mr. Braidwood was an active, cheery man, widely known and very much respected. He leaves one son, Mr. Wm. Braidwood, of Pontiac, Michigan, and three daughters, viz.: Mrs. John Rutherford, of Waterloo, Mrs. John Kay, and Mrs. John wells, of St. Catherine's.

Mr. Braidwood's funeral took place on Wednesday last, from Mr. Rutherford's residence, Waterloo, to Mount View Cemetery, Galt, being largely attended by his old friends.
