"Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6)
On November 30, 2023, Robert Hugh Sloan, departed this life and entered into the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born on July 3, 1940, in Titusville, Pennsylvania to the late Hugh Leo and Mabel Doris (nee Osborn) Sloan. He was the youngest of three children.
Bob, as he was called, attended Titusville High School and upon graduation enlisted in the Navy in 1958. He reached the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer and after 20 years of service he received an Honorable Discharge. While in the Navy he became a Computer Programmer and excelled in teaching other servicemen. He then became an Information Technology Specialist and carried this skill along with his programming skills to his civilian life, working as a contractor for the Department of Defense. During this time, he received many awards and certificates for his outstanding job performances; always going above and beyond what was expected.
He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Mae Foley, August 30, 1958. They were blessed with two sons and two daughters. Carol preceded him in death on April 3, 1989.
In April 2007 Bob felt he had found another soul mate when he met Gwendolyn Arlene Shanklin, where they both worked for the Department of Defense. They married on August 28, 2011.
Bob was a beacon in any community where he lived. Everyone knew if they needed help Bob was always available; no matter what was needed he was there. He was always sharing a part of himself. He was lovingly referred to as "Good Neighbor Bob."
Bob was preceded in death by his siblings, Colleen Mae Landacre and Carol Doris Shrout, grandson, Joseph Robert Lavey and two sons-in-law.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Gwendolyn Sloan: two sons, Robert Sloan, II and Brian Sloan: two daughters, Bonnie Henning and Wendy Lavey: 12 grandchildren: Courtney Baumann, Amanda Hoisington, Crystal Kerns, Ryan Lavey, Magdalene Lavey, Samantha Lavey, Kyle Lavey, Ashley Makey, Noelle Merriweather, Caitlin Sloan, Anthony (Tony) Sloan, Megan Smedley and Lori St. Thomas: 22 great-grandchildren, Raymond Baumann, Haley Baumann, Cari Gorruso, Parker Hoisington, Peyton Hoisington, Ethan Hoisington, Ian Hoisington, Beckman Hoisington, Jenna Kerns, Riley Kerns, Clara Kerns, Mason Kerns, Sofie Kerns, Rowan Kerns, Logan Mackey, Skylar Sloan, Haven Sloan, Avery Sloan, Dodson Sloan, Skye Smedley, Madilynn Smedley, and Miles Smedley: Two step sons: Ricky Merriweather and Christopher Merriweather, and a host of other relatives and friends.
We will forever love and miss you. "Until we meet again" We have been beyond blessed to have had you in our lives. You are forever in our hearts. Thank you for the life we shared. We will miss you.
