From Schaetter Funeral Home:

Mr. Edwin Werner Eckhardt, Jr. of Fredericksburg passed away on Dec. 3, 2023 at the age of 90 years.

Edwin W. Eckhardt Jr. was born on March 30, 1933 in Fredericksburg, Texas to Edwin Albert and Dora Lochte Eckhardt, Sr.

He married Esther Juenke on November 6th, 1954 in the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg, Texas

Edwin resided his entire life in the closeknit Rheingold Community of Gillespie County, with the ultimate stability of living in the same house for his entire 90 years. He attended the one room Rheingold school for eight years, after which he was able to attend and graduate from Fredericksburg High School. Following a brief stint with the Army, he engaged in farming and ranching, following the footsteps of his father and two brothers. Together, he and his brothers started a bulldozer business, which eventually morphed into a multi-faceted dozer and trucking business. Edwin and his oldest brother, Wesley, eventually focused on the dozer and earth construction aspect. After Wesley's retirement, the business became known as Eckhardt Dozer and Crane Service, and Ed would take on just about any job within his diverse skillset. Rarely did he even need a set of construction plans. He just built it.

2 Grandchildren Elise and Alex Slaybaugh, Joel and Erika Eckhardt

3 Great Grandchildren: Henry Slaybaugh, Paige Slaybaugh and Andrew Eckhardt
