Wife of Nathaniel Mason. Daughter of Revolutionary War Patriot John Piper of New Hampshire, and Anna Young.
DAR Real Daughter

Dear Great Great Grandmother!
You were greatly beloved by your only granddaughter, Nellie Olivia Hersey Ross, who wrote a lovely poem in your memory and who was a DAR member as am I, both regents of our respective chapters. Your only great grand daughter, when learning of my DAR membership, put in my care your DAR membership certificate and your Real Daughter spoon which is in the safe deposit box. They are greatly treasured. Many years ago my husband and I found your grave, took pictures. I applied to the then Historian General for permission to mark your grave, it was accorded, but the cemetery would not allow the DAR approved marker because of vandals. I designed a replica of the marker to engrave on your headstone, but could not convince a local headstone person to do it. It is still in limbo after all the intervening years.
You should know that you had a great grandson, Ralph Hersey Ross, who married and had
five children, twenty-three grand children and countless greats and great greats, so you will long be in our memory.
Thank you "anonymous" for placing Grandmother Martha's headstone picture on the web site!
