Bessie Sampinos Pappas fell asleep in the Lord on Monday, December 4, 2023 at her home at the age of 97.
Bessie was born March 31, 1926, to Sam and Litsa Amplianiti Sampinos in Price, Utah. On November 23, 1947, she married Nick G. Pappas and together they had three children.
She worked for the Bureau of Land Management and the United States National Forest Service, retiring in 1991. Bessie was an active member of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, Philoptochos Greek Orthodox Society, Soroptimist International, and was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Bessie was known for her generosity, quick sense of humor, and mischievous personality. As a child, she actually faked appendicitis because she heard you could get presents and candy after surgery.
Bessie is survived by her sister, Penny Sampinos, daughter, Dyann Nikki (Mike) Blackburn, two sons, Gus Pappas and Sam Pappas (Lori Johnson), granddaughter, Michelle (Lenny) Sulley, grandson, Chris Blackburn, great grandchildren, Nik (Lauryn) Sulley, Sofia and Michael Blackburn, great-great granddaughter, Penny Sulley, and brother-in-law, Art Nickas, many nieces, nephews and a community of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Litsa Sampinos, husband, Nick, sisters, Madeleine Nickas and Mae (Mike) Palermo, and brother, John Sampinos.
A visitation will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 from 6 to 7 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) in Price with a Trisagion service to follow. The funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Saturday, December 9, 2023, 11:00 am at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church where the family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to Liturgy. Burial will follow in Price City Cemetery.
