Tulsa Valentine, 73 of Augusta, passed away on Monday morning, November 2 at his sister's home in Augusta.
Tulsa Valentine, also affectionately known as Skandor Akbar, by his family was born on June 4, 1947 in Gregory, AR, to Shawnee and Isdee Lockwood-Valentine.
Tulsa graduated Carver High School of Augusta, AR in 1967 and left for the military soon after.
Growing up, Tulsa attended Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Gregory Arkansas. He remained a lifelong member.
Upon leaving the Army Tulsa moved to Chicago, Illinois where he worked for the steel mill for 15 years before returning home to Augusta, AR.
His parents Shawnee and Isdee Valentine; two brothers Shawnee "Sonny" Valentine Jr. and Harzell Valentine; and three sisters: Paula Jean Armstrong, Earlene Valentine and Darlene Valentine-Adams. All preceded Tulsa in death.
Survivors are his companion of over 30 years Virginia Pryor of Augusta, AR; five brothers: Henry Valentine, Alvin Valentine, Ronnie Valentine, Johnny (Freddie Ann) Valentine, all of Augusta, AR and Calvin Valentine of Stuttgart, AR; three sisters: Janie Johnson, Lula Valentine, and Nellie Valentine, all of Augusta, AR; one sister-in-law Dora Valentine of Beecher, IL; and two aunts: Josie Richardson of Chicago, IL and Catherine Lockhart of Fresno, CA. He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 14 at 2:00 PM at Buckeye Cemetery, Woodruff 874 and Bullard Road in Gregory. For more information call (870) 734-2772.
Pallbearers are Craig Johnson, Henry Valentine, James Johnson Jr., Jeffery Valentine, Stevie Nevels, Elijah Armstrong.
