Roy Strickland entered the glorious presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 2, 2023. Mr. Clarence Roy Strickland, 76, was a devoted husband for 57 years to Joyce Strickland, the love of his life.

Roy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Medal for his service. After his tour in Vietnam, he returned to his wife and daughter in Valdosta, Georgia, to start a new career with Norfolk Southern (formerly Southern Railway). He was promoted within the company and moved his family to Augusta, Georgia, in 1981. He was then moved to Rock Hill, SC, in 1999 and to Columbia, SC, in 2001. He retired from the railroad in 2001.

Roy was a longtime faithful member and deacon of West Acres Baptist Church. He wore many hats while serving the Lord at WABC. His compassion and sincere demeanor were felt with each person he met.

In addition to his wife, Roy is survived by his daughter, Regina, and his son-in-law, Todd Walker. He was affectionately known as "Papa" to his beautiful granddaughters, Jessica and Reagan Walker. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence E. Strickland and Nomie Mae Willis.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105, or to the Golden Harvest Food Bank, 3310 Commerce Dr., Augusta, GA 30909.

A memorial service was held at West Acres Baptist Church.
