Historical Marker for New Haven based on George Rolston.

Added 6/9/2020. Hi, I am hoping to correct a misidentification concerning George Rolston/Raulston who is buried in New Haven Cemetery in Red River Co, TX. Some trees show his wife as Julia Maroney which is incorrect. Julia Maroney was married to a George Raulston just not the one who is buried in Red River County, TX. There is primary source documentation which proves they were two distinct George Raulston/Rolstons to be found on familysearch.com. The will of George Raulston of Blount Co, TN married to Julia Maroney can be seen for free on familysearch.com in Tennessee Probate Court Books 1795-1927; Blount Co, TN; in Inventories, Settlements, 1857-1865, Vol. D; Image 200-201 of 508. His will was proved in the Nov Term of 1859 and it names his son James Jr. as his executor and lists wife July with children (I am listing as written in will as there are no commas)Susan James Jr. Matilda Marha Mary Phillip William Margaret Sarah Wallace and Almiva Philena Prudence. This George Rawlston/Raulston appears on the 1850 U.S. Census for Blount Co, TN (ancestry image p. 32 of 40) as age 55; Julia Raulston age 50; Wm R Raulston age 19(b. 1831); Marg Raulston age 17 (b. 1833); Sarah Raulston age 15(b. 1835); and Wallace Raulston age 13(b. 1837). This George Raulston and wife Julia along with other Raulstons are buried Liberty Christian Church Cemetery; Montvale; Blount Co, TN.
You will notice that the known children of George Rolston of Red River County, TX in no way match the ages of the known children of George Raulston of Blount Co, TN. his children are Mary Ann b. 1816; Wm M. b. 1818; Sarah b. 1824; Cassandra 1825; and Frank Butler b. abt. 1830. Both men have children named William (1818 versus 1831)and Sarah(1824 versus 1835)but are born many years apart. These are two Georges with two separate estates, death dates, and gravesites. I hope I haven't stepped on anybody's toes just wanted to correct the record. Thanks. Bob Kasten

Added 6/10/2020 from the Red River County, TX Raulstons: BUT, Now we are pretty sure George and William M. Are brothers. Their father is also named William. As far as we know, George didn’t have children but that’s not definite. William Sr and Jr both served in Army along with George. There’s proof of that on Ancestry.

Added 3/5/2014 - Apparently the Historical Marker was produced based on incorrect information. From Rex & Jan Stovall: I received the land entry case file from the NARA for George W. Rolston that accompanies his 80 acres of land which he received based on his Bounty Land application # 48786 (that I previously emailed to you). The land entry case file is large (about 25 pages). It shows that after William M. Raulston sold the land to Henry Rhine on the courthouse steps in Red River Co, TX in 1861 then Henry Rhine assigns these 80 acres to S.G. Rhine of Shelby Co, TN. S. G. Rhine assigns the 80 acres to Patrick Tregent who has the land finally patented in 1872 in Michigan.

This land entry case file, also, includes ten pages of documents showing William M. Raulston acting as administrator for George W. Rolston in Red River Co, TX. I have attached a copy of the front and back of the actual Bounty certificate. Kinda neat looking document. The back clearly shows William Ralston as administrator and the application #48786 tells us that George W. Rolston was mathematically too young to have been the father of William M. Raulston married to Fannie Ousley. George was either born about 1813 or 1820 based on his own declarations in his Bounty Land Warrant application #48786.

PVT - CAPT JAMES GILLESPIE'S CO OF VOL INF - COL SAMUEL WEAR'S REG'T, E TENN MILITIA - WAR OF 1812.

7 head of hogs (young) - $7.00

1 grind stone - $1.50

There was also a land warrant for eighty acres of land which, at a later date, was auctioned on the court house steps for twenty-eight cents per acre!!

This is the place to record a brief genealogy. Elsewhere I laid out a listing of the family of George W. Rolston but the format was poor and hard to follow. I therefore repeat it here in better form.
