H. Darlene Scheafer Richards, age 62, of Elizabeth City, NC died on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Born in Manassas, VA on February 28, 1961, she was the daughter of Barbara and Wade Akers. She was married for twenty-seven years to her husband, Edward. A loving wife and beloved mother and sister, she loved cooking, baking. and gardening.
Darlene is survived by a daughter, Jessica Leigh Price; a sister, Lorraine Akers; brothers, Wade Akers, Jr. and John Akers (Elizabeth); grandchildren, Kylei Price and Grayson Miller; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Barbara and Wade, and a daughter, Erica Renee Miller.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Twiford Memorial Chapel officiated by the Rev. Dr. F. Joe Griffith with burial at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veteran's Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel.
