E. Rusell Fink, retired employee of the Westchester Lighting Company and treasurer of the Peekskill Lodge of Elks for many years, died suddenly of a heart attack yesterday afternoon at 4:35 o'clock on North Division Street. He collapsed on the sidewalk near the Endicott-Johnson store, and was rushed to the Peekskill Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was in his 73rd year.

News of his death came as a shock to his many friends. He had appeared to be in excellent health. On Saturday he was around the city, chatting with friends and doing some shopping, and on Sunday he had participated in the annual Memorial services of the Elks, held at the clubhouse.

Yesterday afternoon he complained of indigestion and took some medicine and seemed to have recovered.

At 4:30 P. M., he offered to go to a bake shop for some rolls, refusing to let Mrs. Fink go after them. About five minutes later he collapsed as he was walking along North Division Street. He was taken in the ambulance to the Peekskill Hospital, where Dr. Gordon Comstock pronounced him dead.

Dr. William S. Martens, the family physician, reported the incident to Medical Examiner Dr. Amos O. Squire, who gave Dr. Martens permission to sign the certificate. Death was caused by a heart attack, it is believed.

Mr. Fink was born in the same house in which he lived for nearly 73 years, at 1027 Brown Street. He came from an old Peekskill family. His parents were the late Robert Fink and Elizabeth Stiwell Fink, 11 who maintained a large farm east of Peekskill. The Finks and Stilwells were two of Peekskill's oldest families.

He attended Mrs. Anna Gray's private school, and when a lad of 18 after graduation from the Peekskill Military Academy in 1887, he entered the employ of Armour St. Co., as a bookkeeper. He later worked as shipping and stock clerk for the old Baker Underwear Company, which had a large plant on Main Street, east of Bank Street. In this job he sent shipments to all parts of the nation.

At the time he joined the Odd Fellows, Mr. Fink was working at the Jones Store. It was Mr. Jones who first suggested he enter the Lodge and Mr. Fink joined Cryptic Lodge No. 75, I. O. O. F., on Friday, June 13th, 1890. It was the occasion of his twenty-first birthday. Since that time Mr. Fink took a very active part in the Odd Fellow ritualistic work, and for fifty-one years took a part in the degree work for every man who has been initiated since.

Mr. Fink belonged to eight organizations. He served Cryptic Lodge of Odd Fellows as secretary for more than thirty-eight years. He was also Past District Deputy Grand Master of the Lodge; Past Grand Marshall of the Grand Lodge of the Odd Fellows of the State of New York. He was also active in Bald Eagle Tribe of Red Men,.
having been a Past Sachem and Past Deputy Sachem; Past Chancellor of the Patriotic Order Sons of America, camp No. 36; and treasurer of the Elks for six years.

Mr. Fink belonged to the Rockefeller Family Association and was a blood relation to John D. Rockefeller. His great-great grandfather was the late Deal Rockefeller and his- great grandmother was Elizabeth Rockefeller.

In 1906 Mr. Fink became employed by the Westchester Lighting Company as a clerk, then became cashier and finally appliance bookkeeper in the commercial department. From this position he retired on May 1st, 1938, after thirty-two years of service.

On August 8th, 1892, he married Jennie Adams, of Peekskill. Mrs. Fink is quite well-known in Eastern Star circles and is a past Matron of Courtlandt Chapter, O. E. S. Also surviving besides Mrs. Fink Is one daughter, Mrs. Walter Miriam, Constant, of Brooklyn, and one grandson, Joseph E. Constant, who attended the P. M A.
Earl E. Fink, of South Street, is an uncle of E. Russell Fink.

Rev. James McKiernan, pastor of the St. Paul's Methodist Church, will officiate a the funeral services, which will, be held on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at his home, 1027 Brown Street. Interment will be made in Hillside Cemetery.

The Elks and Odd Fellows will hold ritualistic services at the Fink home on Wednesday evening.
