Ernie, 82, died Sunday in the Care Center of Abingdon, IL.

Son of Ross and Nora Bowser Curtis.

He married Marceline Coons on February 9, 1946, in Galesburg, IL. Surviving are his wife; one son and three daughters.

He lived in Abingdon most of his life and served as chief of police for 23 years. He retired in 1981. He later became mayor of Abingdon and served for eight years.

He helped start and volunteer for the Abingdon Ambulance Service.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.
