PELHAM Mamie Elizabeth Gatewood Lipford, 90, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Morehead Nursing Center in Eden.

A graveside service and burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2001, at Happy Home Congregational Christian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. James Bullock officiating.

Born February 26, 1911 in Cascade, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charlie Harrison Gatewood and Nannie Ruth Hughes Gatewood.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lee Lipford in July of 1990; one daughter, Elsie Lee Lipford; one great grandchild, Spencer Williams; three brothers, Charlie Gatewood, Marvin Gatewood and Melvin Gatewood; and a sister, Rosa Yeatts.

Mrs. Lipford is survived by her sons, Sanford O. Lipford and wife Barbara, James Curtis Lipford, Jack H. Lipford and wife Betty, all of Ruffin, Claude D. Lipford and wife Carolyn of Pelham, Ben F. Lipford and wife Glenda of Eden, Jack Lipford and wife Pat of Greensboro; two daughters, Doris L. Wilson and husband Johnny of Axton, Va., Zona L. Oakes and husband Glenn of Chatham, Va.; three sisters, Gordia Roberts of Stoneville, Ella Dorsett of Pelham, Ruby Funderburk of Martinsville, Va.; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
