Mr. Rudolph "Rudy" Adolph Olfers of Fredericksburg passed away on Thursday, November 23rd at the age of 95 years.

Rudolph "Rudy" Adolph Olfers was born on July 7th, 1928 in Fredericksburg, Texas to Rudolph John and Edna Hitzfeld Olfers. He was the youngest of 9 children.

He married Betty Ann Stroeher on February 12th, 1956 in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg, Texas.

Rudy graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1945 and was drafted into the US Army on November 3, 1950. He served in the Korean conflict and was ranked a First Sergeant.

Rudy started his career in the petroleum business in 1947, primarily working as a tank truck driver and bookkeeper for the Texaco distributor before becoming Vice President of Stroeher and Son, Inc. and President of Stroeher and Olfers, Inc. He dedicated most of his time running the tire business.

Throughout his life, Rudy was very active in church and other organizations. He was a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, including serving on the church council, the worship committee, and singing in the church choir.

Rudy served for over 20 years as Director of the Gillespie County Fair Association, including two terms as President and one term as Secretary. He also served one term as President of the South Texas Fairs and Festivals Association.

Over the years, Rudy received several awards and accolades. He received the Outstanding Community Service Award by the Phillips Petroleum Company, Jaycee Boss of the Year, and the FFA Honorary Chapter Farmer Award.

When Rudy wasn't working, he enjoyed being outdoors whether he was spending time at the ranch, hunting, fishing, or gardening. He was also an avid bowler, and loved traveling with his family and friends. In the rest of his free time, you could always find Rudy at a card table playing pinochle or bridge.

Rudy is survived by his wife: Betty Olfers of Fredericksburg

One daughter, two sons and spouses: Cynthia and Steve Clegg of Fredericksburg, Steven and Lisa Olfers of Fredericksburg, Charles and Kelli Olfers of Fredericksburg

6 Grandchildren: Courtney Kasper, Lauren Hobeich (Paul), Kaylee Olfers, Makenna Olfers, Caleb Olfers and Charli Ann Olfers.

4 Great Grandchildren: Grace Kasper, Benjamin Kasper, Quinn Hobeich and Clara Ann Hobeich

He is preceded in death by his parents: Rudolph John and Edna Hitzfeld Olfers and four sisters and four brothers: Theodore Olfers, Benno Olfers, John Olfers, Werner Olfers, Elba Clark, Ruby Coffey, Lorene Strickland and Ruth Christy

There will be a visitation on Monday, November 27th from 12:30 P.M. to 2 P.M. in the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall with the Funeral Service at 2 P.M.

Graveside services and interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery

Pallbearers: Mark Stroeher, Edward Stroeher, Benno Engel, Darren Smith, Stephen Clegg, Paul Hobeich, Caleb Olfers and Benjamin Kasper

Honorary Pallbearers will be the employees of Stroeher & Son / Stroeher & Olfers

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be given in his memory to the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church or to the charity of your choice.
