After high school, Doug joined the Marine Corps. While on leave in 1950, he married his high school sweetheart, Betty Stewart. After serving in the Marine Corps in Korea he worked and then retired from one of our Pasadena refineries (Valero) after 43 years. After loosing Betty in 1990, Doug met Mary Lamb and they were married in 1991.
His home in Golden Acres was always a welcome place to visit and receive counsel, which he was eager to provide. Doug was a faithful member and leader at Golden Acres United Methodist Church. His faithful leadership also involved him in District and conference activities to enhance the connection of the United Methodist Church.
His leadership and vision were essential to the church and it's mission in the community and in the world. Doug's call to "Sing the Gospel" was evident during his time as song leader and his strong voice from the congregation. on special occasions he blessed us with special music to enhance our worship experience. In 2010, Doug and Mary Larson led the movement to create Hope community United Methodist Church for a changing culture. As a charter member of Hope, Doug remained active as a leader for several years.
Family and church were very important to Doug and it was always his joy to have the family present for church dinners and other special events. Survived by his 5 children and 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, he leaves a wonderful and loving family.
