Carlos Clifford "Cliff" Olsen, age 89, of Roosevelt, passed away November 11, 1998, at the Uintah Basin Medical Center.

He was born June 24, 1909, in Hayden, Utah, one of 12 children (6 boys and 6 girls) born to John Albert and Clara Malinda Johnson Olsen.

He married Vada Labrum, later divorced. He then married Deeatha Anna South in 1932, later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She passed away after 54 years of marriage, January 26, 1987. Later that year he married Thora Mower Caldwell in the Provo LDS Temple.

Cliff lived the first 6 years of his life in Hayden, and the following 72 years in Neola, at which time he met and married Thora and moved to her home in Roosevelt, continuing to work his land and tend his cattle through 1993. Cliff was a hard worker and had a great love for and very much enjoyed his family.

During his life he worked as a cowboy, carpenter, curb & gutter, road builder, and beekeeper, as well as working in the coal mines and the C.C.C. Camp (where he earned $1.08 per day) during the depression. He enjoyed most of all his farm/ranch and being a tour guide in the High Uintahs for the dude ranch.

He also enjoyed playing his harmonica, fishing, hunting, dancing, "Ward Shows", church, home teaching, temple work, snipe hunting, rodeos and his horse, Dan; last but not least his family, including his brothers and sisters, their families and his in-laws.

Cliff was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, holding the office of high priest. He served many positions, but none he enjoyed more than that of scoutmaster. Cliff and Deeatha served two missions, one in Whiterocks, Utah and the second in Chinle, Arizona.

He is survived by his wife Thora; five children: JuLee Eulala Wymer, Roosevelt; Warden Clifford (Happy) Olsen, Boise, Idaho; Marion Ardell (Dana) Olsen, South Ogden; Blanche Jolene (Roy) Miller, Marsing, Idaho; Meldrin Martin (Louise) Olsen, Neola; and 3 stepchildren: Raymond (Cathy)Lemieux, Richard Lemieux, and Melanie Mulford (Bill) Thompson; 23 grandchildren, and several step-grand and great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his wife Deeatha, mother and father, daughter Joanne Olsen Stotler, grandson Darwin Lee Harrison, son-in-law Wayne Clements, and brothers Birnell Olsen and Glenn Olsen.

Funeral Services held Saturday November 14, at 1:00 p.m., in the Roosevelt LDS Stake Center.

Burial in the Neola Cemetery under direction of Hullinger Olpin Mortuary.
