Revolutionary War

John Montgomery, 2nd son of John Montgomery, Sr., married Eleanor Wilson, May 3, 1791, and settled in Black Hole valley. They were the parents of twelve children: John, who married Polly Hammond; Peggy, who was twice married, 1st to John Brindle, and after his death to William A. Petriken; Fleming; Robert, who married Margaret Montgomery; William W.; David; Hugh, a physician, who was married four times, 1st to Maria Thompson, then in succession to Ann Johnson, Isabella Stuart, and Martha Coates; Eleanor, who married Joshua Bowman; Thomas, who married Sophia Keller; William (2d); Washington D., and James, who married Jane Watson.

John Montgomery, Esq., died at his residence in Clinton Twp., on the 11th inst., after a long and protracted illness in the 73rd year of his age. During the pre-cal year, his wife, a daughter and a daughter-in-law have been numbered with the dead.

Will of John Montgomery, Clinton Twp.: to wife Eleanor; to son John 60 A. and adjoining Peter Burns & Fred App; to dau. Peggy, wife of John Brindle; to Son Robert; to William Montgomery son of my brother William Montgomery; son Hugh Montgomery 335 A. land in Vernon Twp., Crawford Co., Pa. joining lands of Thomas Birch and James Birch, Jr.; to my dau Eleanor wife of Joshua Bowman 500A land same area, now occupied by Samuel Clark; also to dau Eleanor house and lot occupied by David Billman as Union Hotel in Muncy; to son William 1/3 tract son Robert now lives on if he recovers from his present malady, gains health and proper state of mind; my son John and Joshua Bowman to manage his affairs; bequest to son James $150 to be paid Peggy McLoe? who was married to my son David. To Jane Foster dau John Foster, her that now lives with me a compensation for service $200 from land I sold James Duncan. Executors: Beloved sons Robert and James, with Joshua Bowman. Wit: Wesley Shaunon, Geo. Shinkle. Made 29 Dec 1833. (Codicil of Jan 15, 1836 gives son James town lot No. 4 in ???? and mentions dau. Eleanor as late deceased, her share for Joshua Bowman. 13 Feb 1836.
