Gloria Vivian Blount Rhoden, fondly known as Mimi, passed away November 17, 2023, surrounded by family. She was born July 3, 1930, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Lonnie and Ruby Blount. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Alvia Rhoden, to whom she was married 69 years, her parents, and brother William Blount. She is survived by children Cathy Rhoden Gooding (David) and Cindy Rhoden Hogan (Robby), grandchildren Michael Hogan (Daphne), Sara Thompson (Joshua), Missy Stachitas (Ted), John Gooding (Heather), Matt Hogan (Darbi), and Michelle Hogan, 10 great grandchildren, sister Jackie Nicoli (Guido), sister-in-law Helen Blount, and several nephews.
Gloria lived in Jacksonville most of her life and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for 50 years, serving as a Sunday School Teacher and on the Greeting committee. Gloria centered her life around her biological family, her church family and her beloved Florida Gators.
Gloria worked for Standard Oil Company in her early years followed by more than a 33 year career with the City of Jacksonville where she served as Executive Assistant to Tax Collectors H.S. Albury and Lynwood Roberts.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., at The Legacy Lodge at Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32207, with a reception immediately following the service. There will be a graveside private burial at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date.
