After nearly a century earthside, Dorothy Albertina Aasved, 99 ½, of Bemidji, MN, passed away with her daughters and granddaughters by her side. Dorothy led an incredibly full life filled with many hobbies and experiences. She loved to be involved with anything and everything from the small details of her family's lives to community events including the annual fireworks show and PBTV fish fry. She cherished her friends and family and every second she could spend with them. Her birthday party each year was a highlight with friends and family from all over attending to celebrate her, share a treat and reminisce over the lilacs at each table.

She spent the majority of her working life in the service industry, working at the Markham Hotel's restaurant for twenty years until they closed their doors permanently and the Bemidji State University bakery until her permanent retirement at the age of 63. Though she was formally retired, Dorothy continued working with the Senior Companion program by aiding with transportation for an additional 28 years after. Dorothy worked hard her whole life and was a self taught fixer of all things.

Dorothy had many hobbies throughout her life. In younger years, she enjoyed spending time snowmobiling through the long Minnesota winters. During her time at Bemidji State University, she used any opportunity to go fishing with her friends - she loved being near the water throughout each stage of her life. Dorothy was ready to travel whenever possible whether it was out of the state or around the block. During her time at Baker Park, she was a founding member of the local "scooter gang". She and the other members of the "scooter gang" would spend hours around Bemidji socializing and exploring - they were well known around town for their visits to multiple area businesses and restaurants.

The 99 ½ years of Dorothy's life were a testament to her favorite hobby, serving others. She was passionate about using her work ethic and love of socializing, to help and improve the lives of others. Her years spent with the Senior Companion program brought her a great amount of joy and many new friends and connections. She would come prepared for a visit with her knee cushion ready to weed the garden, mow the lawn, paint or wallpaper.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Aasved, parents, Hans and Amelia Martenson, grandson, Steven Black and son in law, Malcolm Black.

Dorothy used to say that she liked to be so busy because, "If I can't keep going, I won't keep going." Though her body could no longer keep going, her memory and legacy will continue "going" through her family. Dorothy leaves behind her daughters, Elaine Black and Marlaine (Mike) Sandberg. Grandchildren, Spencer (Denise) Black, Cindy (Jon) Ness, Chad (Chantelle) Sandberg and Holly (Tony) Merschman. Great-grandchildren, Angela (Patrick) Evje, Christopher (Stacy) Black, Brittany (Bruce) Babcock, Courtney (Scott) Black, Jade (Michael) Dockendorf, Nicholas Ness, Trinity (Adam) Bergeron, Tianna, Noah and Zachary Ness, Alisha (Chandler) Mills and Brookelynn, Taylor and Cameron Merschman. Great-great-grandchildren JacLynn and Steven Evje, Isebella Herzog, Stella, Croix and Henry Babcock, Avery Dockendorf, Alida Bergeron, Logan and Maverick Mills, and great-great-great-grandchild Brazy Neal.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Evangelical Free Church in Bemidji, MN starting with a visitation hour at 10am. Service will begin at 11am, followed by a luncheon. Dorothy will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike and Chad Sandberg, Jon, Nicholas and Noah Ness, Tony Merschman, and Spencer and Christopher Black.
