On December 27, 1877, Margaret married Major Harrison Gonzales Hanson. The ceremony was conducted by Justice of the Peace, W. J. Evans, in Caldwell County. They had eight children. Two died in infancy and four passed away during a Typhoid Fever epidemic before they had reached ten years. Major Hanson also passed away in 1889 at the age of 34 following an attack of pneumonia. One son, Thomas Henry was raised by an uncle, Bob Gray, and a daughter Lula Belle was raised by Margaret's mother, Mrs. Zilpha Gray.
Margaret shares a headstone in McNeil cemetery with H. G. Hanson, although she married a second time to James "Jim" Milton Smith.
Margaret and James Milton "Jim" Smith were married in Caldwell County on August 2, 1890 by Justice of the Peace, John Mackey. She and Mr. Smith had one son, Clyant Smith, who was raised by his father and step-mother, Nannie (Swindell) Smith after Margaret's death in 1893.
It is believed that Margaret is buried here, since this is an old headstone, and the double stone with H.G. Hanson is a newer one.

Inscription
In memory of Margaret E. wife of J M. Smith. She's gone to that bright land of love,
Where death and sickness never come;
Where all is bliss with those above,
Who dwell within that peaceful home.
