"Ambrose Alexandre Chesnier Duchesne migrated from France to New Orleans and settled in Caldwell Parish on the Ouachita River at what is now known as Duchesne Bend, coming up by river by flatboat or barge around 1834. He was married four times and left many descendants that live here today. He operated a store in Columbia and was postmaster for a while. He died in 1871 and is buried in the Duchesne Cemetery on Boeuf River."
"Ambrose Alexandre Chesnier Duchesne was married four times and had fifteen children after coming to Caldwell Parish on what we now call Columbia Eastside in the vicinity of Davis Lake. He married first, Clemanoie Roi... He was married the second time to a twin sister of his first wife... Malanie... He was married the third time on December 31, 1845 to Louisa Grumes, born in February, 1828 and died May 9, 1860 at the age of 32 years, three months and 14 days. She was the daughter of John Richmond Grumes and is buried in the Duchesne Cemetery, in upper Ward 8, on the east side of the Hebert Start blacktop. He married his fourth wife December 6, 1860. She was Maria Elizabeth Perrin... She died on Wednesday, September 18, 1873. It is assumed that she is buried in the Duchesne Cemetery, but there is no marker designating her grave."
Ambrose outlived all four of his wives.

"While the first two wives of Ambrose Alexandre Chesnier Duchesne were buried in the old Indian Mound Cemetery on Menden Hall Plantation now owned by George T. Martin heirs, the other two are said to be buried in the Duchesne Cemetery, a few miles north of Hebert on Boeuf River, which is more or less a family burial ground for the Duchesnes. There are only 23 markers in this cemetery, but there are known to be many more than that number buried there. While some of the markers have been broken, as a whole the cemetery is well kept."
