Mrs. Abney was born in Queensbury, NY, on November 7, 1946, to the late Gordon Wemmitt and Josephine Doner Wemmitt and two brothers, Thomas Wemmitt and Gordon Wemmitt Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey D. Abney of Raeford; two daughters, Lisa Marie Thornton and her husband, Kris of Eastover, NC; Elizabeth Nicole Sparks and Russell of Ft. Mitchell, AL. Three grandchildren, Virginia Martin, Isaiah Abney, and Jadian Abney, and one great-grandson, Vincent Martin. A sister, Alice Hunt of N.H.
