Mrs. Queen was born January 20, 1931, in Burke County, a daughter of the late, Russell Richard and Mae Etta Huffman Shook.
Irene was a charter member of United Baptist Church and remained very active as long as her health would allow her. She retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture Co. after many years of service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Jennings Queen, a daughter and son in law, Sandy and Lynn Powell, brothers, Roy Oneil Shook (Duck), Claude Shook and Russell Shook, Jr. (Buck) and sisters, Margie Stirewalt, Hazel Keever and Lucy Watson.
Surviving are sons, Randy Queen, William Dean Queen, daughters, Lisa Queen Swink (Ron) and Tracy Queen Mangum (Stephen) and sister, Ethel Shook Andrews (Andy). Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Scott Powell (Jodi), Chad Powell (Amy), Randy Stuart Queen, Jr. (Pokey), Connie Queen Rummel (Jason), R.J. Mozeley (Daphne), Jenny Mozeley Lankford (Chris), Jake Hunter Queen, Ryan Jennings Mangum (Nicole), Michaela Nichole Mangum and sixteen great-grandchildren, one soon to be and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Irene Shook Queen will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday November 21, 2023, at United Baptist Church, with Rev. Steve Matthews and Rev. Steve Mangum officiating. Interment will follow in the Burke Memorial Park.
