Mr. Ager first joined the United States Navy in June of 1915 and was sent to US Naval Training Station in San Francisco, CA. After basic training he was assigned to the USS San Diego. He eventually saw sea duty on the USS Pittsburgh (CA-4 during WWI), USS Idaho (BB-42), USS Milwaukee, USS California (BB-44), USS New Mexico (BB-40, present during the 1925 Australian Cruise) and the USS Yorktown (CV-10, during WWII). He saw shore duty at Puget Sound Navy Base, WA; NRS Seattle, WA; NAS San Diego, CA; NAS Alameda, CA; RS, New York, NY; NAS Norfolk, VA and NAS Sanford, FL. While serving on the USS Pittsburgh during the flu epidemic, he did voluteer work and was commended by Commanding Officer G.B. Bradshaw. During World War II his rating was changed from BM2c, to Aviation Ordanance after completion of training at the Norden Bomb Site factory. He eventually was promoted to Chief AO. He retired at that rate in May of 1945. He was awarded the Navy Good Conduct medal, the World War I Victory medal with "Patrol" clasp, the American Defense Service medal, the American Theater Campaign medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal and the World War II Victory medal.
