Left the Army and became a Political Officer in the Colonial Service. First resident of Zaria, Nigeria. Became a Fellow of the Royal Geographical and Zoological Societies, and a member of the African Society. Awarded the CMG. He Died of Malaria in Kano.
He is Commemorated in Sandhurst Military College (204644535) and on the family memorial plaque in Canterbury Cathedral, Canterbury, Kent. (69552548)
