Wilma Anita Hakeman
March 6, 1920 ~ January 20, 2020

Wilma Anita Hakeman, 99, of Tempe, AZ passed away January 20, 2020.

She was born in Sanborn, Iowa to Arthur and Myrtle (Smith) Wells on March 6, 1920. She married James W. Hakeman in 1940. After retiring, Wilma and Jim moved to Arizona in 1984 to be closer to family.

Wilma enjoyed playing golf, card games, and she loved making ceramics. She was also a member of Kiwanis and Desert Palms Presbyterian Church, where she volunteered for many years. When she moved to Friendship Village Tempe in 2012 Wilma continued to volunteer. She would help other residents get around pushing them in their wheelchairs to their hair appointments and delivering mail to their rooms. Most of those residents were younger than her. Wilma was always service oriented and a caretaker. She had a strong sense of responsibility for taking care of her family, neighbors, church and community.

Wilma was predeceased by her husband Jim and her four brothers Gene Wells, Ray Wells, Glen Wells and Merle Wells. She is survived by her sons Jeffrey J. Hakeman of Fresno, CA and Clare M. (Wanda) Hakeman of Tempe, AZ; her grandchildren Sharon, Darren, Matthew and Adam; her great grandchildren Austin, Hayley, Marcos, Gabriela, Diego, Sophia, and Amelia; as well as her 10 nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 2:30 pm at Friendship Village Tempe, 2645 E Southern Ave., Tempe, AZ 85282, in the Skirm Auditorium.
