Monroe was born to John Calvin and Tennie Poe Adams. He married Avanal Sexton on March 28, 1924 in Logan County, West Virginia. Monroe retired from Pontiac Motors and Silver Brand Clothes. He was a member and deacon of No. 20 Whitman Community Church.
Surviving: daughters, Gwendolyn C. Adams of Whitman, Bernita D. Adams of Logan and two grandchildren.
