Henry operated a general store for years before and after the Civil War at East Union, and was also a tobacco buyer and packer. The tobacco was sorted by grades and tied in hands, the latter process gave employment to a large number of person during the tobacco growing season. The hands of tobacco were packed in hosheads, hauled to the Ohio River, loaded on boats for either Pittsburgh or Cincinnati markets.
