On Thursday, November 9, 2023, Edward William Maynard of Lewiston, Maine, originally of Worcester, Massachusetts, passed away at the age of 92. He was supported by the love of many beloved family members and friends in his final days.

Ed was born April 3, 1931, in Worcester, Massachusetts, one of five children to Edward W. and Claire (Carbonneau) Maynard. As a young man, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. While at Ft. Dix, Ed was known for his boxing skills which earned him a 1st place trophy in the 175# class.

Shortly after being honorably discharged from the Army, as fate would have it, Ed attended a Saturday night dance on Valentines Day-1953, where he met his future wife, Leona M. (Renaud). For Ed, it was love at first sight. They became engaged, and on August 24, 1958, they were married in at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Northborough. Ed and Leona then relocated to Washington, D.C. and then Maryland where Ed worked as a police officer and sergeant within the Washington D.C. Police Department. He also served as a presidential motorcade driver. They resided in the D.C. area for 43 years; here they made their home, made many friends and raised their two sons, Thomas and Eric.

After retirement, Ed then worked 12 years as a school bus driver in Prince George County, MD prior to relocating to Maine. He and Leona moved first to a cottage on Cold Stream Pond in Enfield, Maine then, in 2012, they moved to their current home in Lewiston, Maine. He also enjoyed spending time at camp, on Saponac Pond. With a passion for hunting, fishing and nature, Ed became a Registered Maine Guide in 1986. He found satisfaction in sharing his skills and wisdom as a Maine Guide with fellow enthusiasts and continued to maintain his certification to present day.

Surviving Ed are his son, Eric Maynard of Pasadena, MD; a granddaughter, Ashley Maynard of Brunswick, MD; a great grandson, Addison Maynard; a brother John Maynard of Brownville, ME; many nieces and nephews and friends. Ed was preceded in death by his wife Leona in 2020 and his son Thomas in 2021. His Siblings, Earl Maynard, Judith DeMaria, Barbara Lavallee and Theresa Spacciapoli also preceded Ed.

Calling hours will be held from 1 – 4 P.M. on Sunday, November 19, and again on Monday, November 20, from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough, Mass. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 A.M. at Saint Rose of Lima Parish, 244 W. Main Street, Northborough.
