According to the genealogy by William D. McCain published in 1974 (Eight Generations of the Family of John Shaw...), John was in Chester County, S. C. from at least 1820 until 1830. He went to Choctaw and Yalbusha counties Mississippi about 1842, joining Bethany Baptist Church SW of Slate Spring in Sept. 1842. He and Nancy had four boys: Jesse Thompson Shaw, John Morgan Shaw, Charner Morgan Shaw, and Herndon Earl Shaw. The same source indicates that he married second a Mary in Mississippi before 1850 (no children listed).
